Argentina vs Paraguay : Argentina held by 1-1 as Lionel Messi's Goal denied
On Friday we saw the battle of the two South American football giants – Argentina and Paraguay in Estadio Alberto J. Armando stadium in Buenos Aires.
Angel Romero scored the goal for Paraguay as Argentina conceded a first-half penalty but the star studded team recovered to secure a 1-1 draw against Paraguay in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Nicolas Gonzalez scored the equaliser for Argentina just before half-time assisted by Giovani Lo Celso corner kick.
Despite the draw, Argentina holds on to their top spot in the points table. Lionel Messi scored a brilliant goal which looked to be the winner in the 57th minute, but it was disallowed by the referee following consultation with VAR.
VAR ruled out the Argentina goal due to a foul by Gonzalez on Romero that happened more than 50 metres from the goal.
Argentina who are currently unbeaten in the qualifiers will make the trip to Lima to face Peru on Tuesday, while Paraguay host Bolivia on the same day.
