National Farmer Day : History , Significance of the Farmer's Day

India celebrates National Farmer Day or Kisan Diwas on December 23, every year. The day is celebrated in the memory of India's fifth Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.  It is also celebrated to promote awareness to help and reward farmers for their amazing contribution to society..

National Farmers Day is celebrated every year in the states which are highly agricultural such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and many other states.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was a Kisan Leader and served the country as Prime Minister for a very short period of time from July 28, 1979, to January 14, 1980. During that period he introduced many welfare schemes for the farmers and wrote several books on farmers and their problems depicting various solutions to improve the lives of the farmers of the nation. He always stood by farmers and framed farmer-friendly policies.

As there is ongoing farmers protest on the borders of NCR Delhi has entered it's 28th day, the farmer unions on 22 December decided that they will take a call on Central government’s letter on 23 December which is National Farmer's Day.
