Jammu and Kashmir DDC elections :  Coalition holds a marginal lead ahead of BJP

The counting of votes for the eight-phase District Development Council in Jammu and Kashmir starts from 9 am today. It will be declared in few hours whether the people of Jammu and Kashmir elected the BJP or the People's Alliance for Guptar Declaration.


According to the early trends, the Farooq Abdullah- led Gupkar coalition maintains a marginal lead over the BJP. Group of regional parties including National Conference and People's Democratic Party (PDP) Gupkar (Gupkar) is leading in 11 seats in initial trends while BJP is leading in 8 seats. Congress is ahead in two seats.

Several political parties in Kashmir, including the National Conference Party, People's Democratic Party (PDP), People's Congress and Marxist Communist Party, decided to field their candidates in these elections simultaneously by forming the People's Alliance for Group Declaration. Congress is also involved in this alliance. All these are against BJP.

It is the first election held in Jammu and Kashmir union territory after the repeal of Article 370 in August last year. The first phase of voting was held on 28 November and the eighth and final phase was held on 19 December.
