Bharat Bandh till 3 pm ; All you need to know about parties supporting the lockdown

Farmers from many states who are protesting at Delhi's borders for the past two weeks against the recently passed three contentious farm laws, have announced 'Bharat Bandh' on 8th of December, Tuesday. 

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, UP and Haryana have decided to block all roads leading to Delhi if the government does not scrap the three laws.

Our protest is peaceful & we'll continue that way. Tomorrow's Bharat Bandh is from 11 am to 3 pm. It is a symbolic protest to register our opposition. It is to show that we don't support some of the policies of the government of India," said Rakesh Tikait of Bharatiya Kishan Union.

Five rounds of talks had taken place between the Central government and protesting Farmers led by Agriculture Minister N.S Tomar. Another round of meeting is scheduled on December 9.

Bharat Bandh will start on Monday from 11 am to 3 pm. Bharatiya Kishan Union Spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said, "Important services such as ambulance, weddings will go as planned. People will have to show their card to leave". Farmers urged people to extend their support non-violently and said their protest "was symbolic" and not meant to "cause problems for the common man".

Supply truck movement will be affected in north India, including Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir, as at least 51 trade and transport unions have shown their support for farmers.

14 opposition parties including Congress, Shiv Sena, DMK, RJD, MNM, Samajwadi Party, the NCP, the Aam Aadmi Party and a collection of Left Alliance - have extended their support and said they would organise demonstrations across cities tomorrow.

Delhi Police are trying to ensure that the lives of the common people are not affected. If someone tries to shut down shops forcefully or block roads, legal action will be taken.
