LeT founder Hafiz Saeed sentenced for 10 years in two more cases of terror funding

Mumbai 26/11 terrorist attack mastermind and Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Head Chief Hafiz Saeed was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan in two more terror financing cases on thursday.

According to TV reports, a anti-terrorism court in Lahore has sentenced Lashkar-e-Taiba Head Hafiz Saeed, Professor Zafar Iqbal, and Yahya Muhajid to a jail term of 10-and-a-half years. 

Hafiz Saeed was arrested on July 17, 2019, at the Kamoke toll plaza, about 50 km north of Lahore.

Saeed and his two close members  Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid have been sentenced to 10 and a half years each, while JuD chief’s brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki was sent to jail to six months.

United States has already placed a $10 US million bounty on the UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed. The court has ordered their properties to be seized.

A total of 41 cases have been registered by the CTD against the Saeed, of which 24 have been decided while the rest are pending in the courts.

In June 2018, The FATF had put Pakistan on the grey list and asked Islamabad to make a plan of action to eliminate the money laundering and terror financing by the end of 2019 but the deadline was extended later on due to COVID-19 pandemic.
