Cyclone storm Nivar likely to cause extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry on November 25.

A low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to concentrate into a depression and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the next couple of days bringing extremely heavy rainfall to  parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts on November 25. The cyclone has been named Nivar and is moving itself towards the northern Tamil Nadu coast.


Under the cyclone's influence, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikkal regions are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at most places.


The Meteorological Department has issued a pre-cyclone watch for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and fishermen have been warned not to sail  into southwest Bay and Tamil Nadu costs until November 25.

“It is very likely to move over and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around 25 November 2020 noon/afternoon.”


South coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also expected to receive rainfall from November 25 to 26 in view of the system.
